The Outcome
Willow Hall, dedicated in May 2018, includes more than 100,000 square feet of space for state-of-the-art working clinics, student-centered workspaces, and research labs. The facility also features unique spaces geared toward hands-on learning, including an anatomy lab, a sleep center, and sound-proof therapy and testing rooms for hearing. The on-site therapeutic playground serves young patients in the speech-language-hearing and physical therapy programs. The programs’ research labs and clinics serve patients from across the community.
Art + Artisans handled art consultation from start to finish, working with the University art committee and end-user group. In addition to the University’s broader art goals of connecting to Texas State culture and engaging visitors including students, faculty and patients — objectives for this project included artwork selection that focused on nature to promote healing. Art + Artisans developed a plan to determine where art pieces would have the greatest impact. Special consideration was given to the themes and media of pieces that would be placed in specific areas, including pediatrics, clinical studies areas, and student-only areas. The A+A team managed a national call-to-artists and oversaw the selection, procurement, fabrication, and installation of 40 original pieces of commissioned artwork. At the end of the project A+A provided a maintenance guide and informational plaques for each piece of art and a packet with information on each artist.
