TIAA
Art + Artisans curated over 150 artworks for the Teacher’s Insurance and Annuity Association’s ground-up Class A, 15-story tower and surrounding grounds. The program elevates this workspace into a celebration of creativity, community, and Texas’ natural beauty.
We’re thrilled to have worked hand-in-hand with the talented Corgan interiors team to integrate the art program seamlessly with building design.
Outside, large-scale sculptures lend to the atmosphere, creating contemplative gardens and dynamic gathering places.
The above feature piece, titled “Drawn Together”, represents TIAA’s core: the teacher and the teaching relationship. In the work, colored pencil shapes cut from steel pipes form two, reaching hands. Connecting to TIAA’s value of diversity, the color palette unites Crayola skin-tone shades with TIAA Brand colors.
Inside, our team brought vignettes of the Texas Landscape design concept alive with dynamic original work. From the unexpected mystic of the Big Thicket to the organic discovery in the Hill Country, each floor and its art tell a story of Texas.
Upper floors draw inspiration from the “Extreme Shifts” of the environment, mirrored in the dynamic, layered paintings and sculptures. Throughout, the art and interior finishes – the patterned flooring, undulating wall installations, and earthen color palette – work in harmony to create a truly immersive experience.
Diversity and community commitment are key to TIAA’s identity. 50% of the artists used on this project were created by diverse and local artists.
Feature Artwork: “Bluebonnet”
“Bluebonnet” is inspired by it’s namesake: Texas’s beloved state flower.
The work uses 570 custom-colored steel tubes with digitally programmed lights to capture the essence of bluebonnets swaying in the wind across Texas plains.
By day, it’s a vibrant blue flower reaching toward the sun. At night, it comes alive with dancing, radiating lighting programs, creating an entirely new method of engagement.
