Texas State’s Rising Star emerges from the ground outside the University Events Center. Full spectrum interactive LED lights at nodes of the matrix provide dramatic illumination. A gathering place where students, faculty, and visitors come together, it welcomes visitors to the many exciting events to be experienced at the Events Center.

Art + Artisans created the RFP and oversaw the national call-to-artists that led to our installation at the LBJ Student Center. The piece features a layered word cloud that evokes both history and technology. The three-dimensional Trompe l’oeil draws on inspirational quotes from President Johnson’s speeches.
Consisting of suspended layers of printed and cut fabric, it is a visual puzzle for visitors to solve—the intricate patterns on each layer shift as the viewer moves, encouraging a deeper look.
